July 31 (Bloomberg) -- U.K. consumer confidence held at the highest level since April 2008 as evidence mounted that Britain is emerging from recession, GfK NOP said.

July 30 (Bloomberg) The U.S. budget gap will be 13.5 percent of the country’s economy this year, and the U.K.’s will be 11.6 percent, as financial rescue efforts swell government debt worldwide, the Washington-based IMF said today in its first report on the fiscal state of the Group of 20 nations. As a result, U.S. government debt next year will almost match the size of the world’s largest economy, the IMF said.
